exile on jacob's ladder

find the pain and live in it.

Early Day

A good workout last night. I did the same TT intermediate workout that I did last week (again, nothing else last week) plus 20 minutes of treadmill intervals and I felt good. Invigorated, not sick. Tonight I’ll just go and do some light cardio to stay active. I’d go for a walk but it’s pouring here right now and more storms are on the way.

My eating has been pretty good. I had a couple of cheat meals during the weekend (steak and potato at Outback, English muffin and homefries with my eggs and bacon at breakfast, and chicken parm/beer/chocolate cake at Jaylynn’s bridal shower), but I wasn’t too bad. My usual cheat meals involve chicken wings and fries, and at least I had some brocolli with the steak. I’m right back on the wagon this week. A great day of eating yesterday with much-increased vegetable intake.  TNT has been good so far minus those cheat meals. I do miss the sugary post-workout shakes I was having, but I’ll get back to those in a few weeks.

Work is getting very slow. A wave of discharges and no admits or referrals has left me with less than 3 hours of treatment a day. I hope some patients head my way soon, because I was bored to tears today. Granted I left a couple hours early, but still, it can’t be like this all the time.

I also might have found a loophole in buying an XBox: Jaylynn said I can’t buy one until we’re married so we have our wedding money, but if I charge it and pay it off when I get my statement after the wedding, that should satisfy her. She’s helping her sister move in to her new apartment this afternoon so when I call and ask hopefully she’ll be too distracted to say no. I’m sorry, I went to GameStop today to buy last year’s Madden and they didn’t even have that. I can’t take that anymore. With Brady gone for the year, I need to escape from reality.

Two workout updates

Tuesday is blogging day.

Did legs last Wednesday, a few sets of heavy machine squats, stiff-legged deadlifts, and calf raises. Hurt to walk for several days.

Didn’t go last night but went into work late and hit the gym this morning for another upper-body session. Did 5×5s of chest, back, and traps, then hit the road because I somehow didn’t have time despite not getting to work until 11 AM.  I’ll be pretty sore tomorrow.  Good thing I went because after not going yesterday I wasn’t too optimistic about this week.

Eating reasonably well.  My new favorite food is roasted broccoli.  A few spears covered in EVOO and salt and pepper, baked in the oven at 400 for about 20 minutes till they are brown.  They taste like burned french fries and are awesome.

Ate at Vinny T’s in Worcester for Jaylynn’s birthday, 16 of us in all, and the service was terrible.  We were sat down in the function room with a bunch of other large parties with one exasperated server.  No draft beer, limited mixed drinks, wrong drink and food orders, an hour-and-a-half wait for our food, and just overall disinterest from her.  She didn’t even seem to care, we under-tipped. Not going back there, that’s for sure.  Jaylynn had fun at Irish Times afterwards (I managed to resist any drinks at the bar, I get sick to my stomach just thinking about having a beer in that setting. Must be a mental thing), so the night was not a total loss.

Already planning a personal day for when Madden 09 is released. The thought entered my head yesterday for some reason and I became giddy.  I’ve already drawn it out in my head: I’ll work the day it’s released (August 12), then take the next day off. I’ll wake up, go to Borders, get the largest mocha and biggest breakfast sandwich they sell, then race home, park the recliner in front of the big screen, set my iPod on shuffle, then just go nuts with franchise mode all day, taking a break only for a walk or two.  I’m looking forward to this day second only to my wedding.

Tiger

Just worked a 7:30-4:00 day and it was great.  It feels like 2:00 PM right now, the day absolutely flew by.  If you were just looking outside at 4:00 PM today and didn’t know it was 15 degrees, you would think it was a beautiful spring day.  Spring makes me think of golf which makes me think of playing a couple rounds of Tiger Woods.

I almost gave in and made plans to buy a Wii this spring for the purpose of playing Tiger, but I’m going to hold off on that until the wedding (if we had just registered at Best Buy like I wanted to, it wouldn’t be an issue).  I don’t want any major purchases hanging over my head until I save some more money and get a few other things paid off.  I can still play it on my trusty Game Cube for the time being.  Video games were something I tried to really cut back on when I started 2008, and because I’ve been so busy I haven’t so much as turned the thing on.  A round at St. Andrews would be perfect right now, though.  Maybe later tonight.

Gonna get a good workout in later tonight once this coffee kicks in and I work up the guts to head back out into this wind.  I had a pretty good weekend as far as eating was concerned.  Cheese pizza Friday night (as opposed to my usual sausage, pepperoni, or BBQ chicken), Uno’s Saturday night (where I had an individual Chicago Classic and split a Chocolate ‘Wow’ with Jaylynn), a cafe mocha at Starbucks yesterday, and some chicken and potatoes last night…okay, maybe that was a little much but I know my calories weren’t out of control.  Still feelin’ skinny and back on the wagon today.  I’m feeling increasingly confident in my ability to get back on track with my diet once the week starts and I’m feeling less and less guilty about having fun on the weekends.  That’s the way it should be.  Good signs, as long as that doesn’t translate to cheating during the week.

Haircut and gym time.
